How do you work hip extension? What are the upper extremities doing?
We need to help our patients achieve selective hip extension with selective trunk extension and reach in order to be functional
.

Pull to stand type movements or achieving stand while weight bearing through the arms on a walker will teach our patients to only achieve hip extension with upper body flexion 💪

Achieving reach and hip extension is not only functional, such as reaching up on a shelf or reaching to open a door while standing, working reach also helps to reinforce trunk stability which in turn makes achieving selective hip extension easier

Walking with two people support may seem like a step back for some but the aim of this is to decrease upper limb💪 dependence, especially if the patient is using a walker or rollator, while maintaining all the benefits of walking over ground (rather than harnessing them into the bodyweight support treadmill)

Walking over ground vs treadmill training requires the patient to:
📌 Achieve greater hip extension
📌Achieve greater push off through the toes
📌Maintain a stable trunk atop moving legs over a stable surface
📌Process visual input from the changing environment
